Knowing that Antigua is situated in the Caribbean would be enough by itself to convince most that the island would make for a great holiday but Antigua has so much to offer visitors than just its geographical location. Despite being only 108 square miles and having a population of only roughly 68,000 people, the island has hundreds of beaches for people to enjoy with clear blue sea surrounding the island and amazing coral reef overrun with tropical fish.
With so many beaches and such lovely clear sea, water sports are of course one of the most popular things to try when in Antigua and they are great fun. Visitors can hire snorkelling equipment and windsurfing boards to use at the beach or there is also the option of trying some scuba diving. Scuba diving is a breath taking experience and a great way to swim amongst the wide variety of different tropical fish which live close to the shore of the island.
It isn't a secret that the Caribbean is a pretty warm place and Antigua gets just as much sunshine as any other part. For the entire year the island enjoys lovely high temperatures which are at their highest in July and August. For those looking to sunbathe these are the best months but visiting at any time of year will see you leaving with a lovely golden tan. The rain in Antigua averages around 45cm per year so it is unlikely that visitors will see it whilst on the island.
It isn't all sunbathing on golden beaches though as Antigua has plenty of other things to keep people occupied. Around the island there are a number of galleries and museums and all visitors should try and get to the English harbour. The harbour was a British naval base in the 18th century and still has a number of yachts and historic and military buildings there.
After a long hard day relaxing on a beach or walking around a picturesque harbour, visitors can treat themselves to a rest and enjoy some Antiguan cuisine. All around the island there are bars and restaurants serving beautiful traditional Antiguan food and it is a great way to enjoy the rest of the day before doing it all over again.
