The difference between religion and spirituality is a fine line that many people miss. Religion implies a certain type form and function that is relating to connecting with a higher power. When determining whether you are practicing one, the other, or neither, it's best to look at whether you seek deeper connection or not.
Religion implies belief in a supreme being, but in "religious circles" it is considered the exercise of going to church, doing all the religious stuff, and looking good for the people at church. The ideal has bad connotations for those inside and outside of certain faiths, but to others it is simply a system of beliefs. It all depends on your perspective.
Christians are of the belief that exercising your faith just to look good or to follow rules isn't worth much. This is a big difference between the Jews, Muslims, and Christians. Following all 617 laws of the old testament or bowing to the east is just this stale thing you do everyday. That turns off people who are more into spiritual pursuits.
Spirituality implies the search for greater connection with God or a higher power. Seeking out God for direction in your life, hoping that God will speak to you and offer you advice in your daily life. Using God's direction to plot a course for your life that is much deeper than you could have imagined for yourself is spiritual in nature.
It may seem as though people who lean on God are using God as a crutch so that they don't have to think for themselves or take responsibility for their actions. However, some people have learned that living every day with rules or laws works for them. Others need to search in order to feel whole, and knowing the difference for yourself is crucial to your faith.
Sometimes people reject all kinds of organized religion because they just don't believe that there is only "one way". Some don't even believe that there is a God, and they just want to find a "center" in nature or in things that they enjoy. People have called their favorite thing their "church" because that's where they feel connected to something bigger.
The difference between religion and spirituality is just a distinction that you must make. Whether you need the rules or not, you must decide what sort of structure makes you feel more in harmony with the world at large.
For individuals whose faith takes an important role in activities and attitudes, Christian dating sites are a good choice. You can enjoy online dating with others who share the same principles.
