If you want to buy a baby monitor, you are about to find out just how confusing the whole process can be! Now there are different manufacturers, different brands, different sizes and shapes and styles. Furthermore, some monitors even allow you to watch your baby from another room with full audio and video monitoring, and you may even find systems which can be wired into your home, or others which simply plug into outlets! But, before you run out and grab the first item off the shelf you can find, use these tips to help assess what kind of baby monitor you need.
Make sure you're able to adjust the volume on your receiver. Everyone knows all moms want to tend to their babies if they're distressed or crying, but it's a very good idea to be able to adjust the monitor volume to a comfortable level. You don't want to be rocket launched out of your bed during your first full night of sleep because your receiver makes it sound like a bomb has gone off every time your baby rustles his blanket a little bit or sighs. You want to find a system that will transmit the sounds you want to hear at a volume that is good for your ears.
You should also consider how much you want to be aware of when you are not in the same room as your baby. Some baby monitors only keep track of the sounds, whilst others will tell you if there is any motion in the room. You may even want more protection by getting a system which can record both audio and video surveillance, so that you can see what is happening as well in case your home is often too noisy. But it all depends on how much you want to be able to see and hear when you are not in the room. Also, you shouldn't feel as though you are a bad parent if you choose not to opt for the full on video surveillance system, as there are many parents who feel that other more cost effective monitoring systems work just as efficiently.
Choose your frequency carefully. Many inexpensive baby monitors will operate at a 49MHz frequency. That frequency will usually have a great of signal interference and noise, and that's more than likely why they are so inexpensive. You'll also find out that these monitors will pick-up phone calls from cell phones, conversations from people using their phones in passing cars, and more. Monitors with higher operating frequencies won't have these annoying problems and they're less difficult to use. If you want to avoid these interference problems, the way to go is with monitors operating at 2.4 GHZ.
Now while there are really so many things which you can consider when you want to purchase your baby monitor, all you really need to remember is to assess what you really want, and how you want the system to deliver that, and then find a monitor which can closely match your concerns. But it all depends on how extensive you actually want your system to be and how much you want it to cost. Research the features and costs of baby monitoring systems, so that you can get a very good idea of what you want exactly, that way you really know what you will be investing your money in when you make your final decision.
