$1500 A Month After Six Months As A Freelance Writer

by Brent Hale

Some of you may be wondering how you might be able to make some extra money by writing online, or you might even want to start writing articles as a career. In any case, I've got some experience that you might find to be beneficial to where you are at. No, this isn't going to give you a surefire formula that will get you filthy rich overnight. Instead, this article is going to show you the steps I took to find fairly quick success as a freelance writer, and I'm certain that, if you take the advice given below, you will have a good idea of how you can start earning some money by freelance writing on the internet.

It was only six months that I came to the conclusion that I needed a change of career. At that time in my life, I decided that, from then on, I would start a career that revolved around terms that I made for myself. The most significant thing with this statement was that I meant every word of what I said. I don't have anything against the nine to five lifestyle and the people who live it. In fact, I believe the people who work those jobs are critical to the wellness of this country. However, that lifestyle wasn't satisfying me and I needed to make a change that would work for me. I'm at my best when I have a little bit of freedom and I knew that I couldn't produce quality work if I had a boss that was always looking over my shoulder. So, I decided that, even though I was unaware of how I could start making money as a writing, I would do whatever it took to make it become a reality.

Without a college degree, I figured I'd have to start somewhere small and work my way up. It didn't matter to me... I KNEW that I was going to figure it out... one way or another I was going to make money writing articles online. And this is probably the most important part of being successful in any endeavor you may undertake in life. You have to have faith, you have to know you are going to succeed in what you are doing and you HAVE to be willing to do what it takes. For the first time in my life, I had that attitude...

In my first month writing, I wrote nearly 14 hours a day. I was only making $3 for 500 word articles. As I look back now, I realize it was a ton of work for so little money, but, at the time, I didn't even notice. It was incredible to me that I was actually making some cash! My positive attitude made me look over how low paying the site I was writing for really was. Having a positive attitude and being enthusiastic is another critical aspect in any line of work you find yourself in. The bottom line is, you're never going to come across a job in which every task you carry out is completely satisfying. However, by being enthusiastic and positive towards your work, you can drown out those inconveniences that come with the work you do.

So, as my positive attitude and faith in becoming a successful freelance writer helped me along, I started searching for better opportunities. About a month after concluding that I was going to start freelance writing, I found a site that was just getting started. I figured that if this site was brand new, maybe I'd get luck and have a chance to get on board with a company that could provide a more lucrative opportunity down the road. At first, the amount of assignments available on the site was dismal. In fact, after a month of being a member of this new site, I had only gotten one assignment and it was on a topic that I had no experience with. But I finished it and got paid $11.50. (In that time period I kept writing my $3 articles to give me something to fall back on.) About one month prior to completing my first assignment, I was able to get a couple more assignments on the same topic. With every assignment I agreed to complete, I made sure that I produced the best work that I possibly could.

Right from the get-go, I had a great feeling about this new site. I'm not really sure what it was. After writing a few assignments on the topic I knew nothing about, I was contacted by one of the editors. She asked me if would like to take on more assignments, and of course I replied that I would. This was the first big victory I had came upon (really, I've only had about two 'big victories' in my short career... but it's fun to say 'my first' because I know there's a ton more coming in the future). So, after signaling her to send me more assignments, I began getting regular work and on the subject I knew little about, I began learning a lot more. And whenever I was asked if I could take more assignments, I ALWAYS said yes.

As I look back at my life now, I realize there was a lot of jobs that I could have excelled at. However, I never wanted to take on anything else, or go above and beyond what was required of me. With this writing thing, I was willing to say yes to ANYTHING that came my way... and that's exactly what I did.

As the work kept piling in from my one client, I became more and more efficient. After about two months, I was making about $1500 a month writing for them. Now, there's a lot of people out there making a lot more than $1500 a month and that's awesome for them, because that's what I want. But $1500 now, from where I was six months ago, might as well be a billion dollars. I didn't know how I was going to make money... not even the slightest clue. All I had was faith and enthusiasm.

A couple of weeks ago I got a second 'break'. I had just turned in an assignment and I got an idea I wanted to bring up to the client I wrote for. So, I did. The next day my client messaged me asking me to email her. After I emailed her back, she told me that she needed one writer to write a database of articles for a new client of their company had gotten. And, although it wasn't what I proposed to her, it was a better opportunity than I currently had. The articles I wrote for the database would pay four times as much as I was currently making. Without hesitation, as you can imagine, I gladly accepted the new assignment.

The important thing to note here, is that I took a chance. This is the last point I want to make. You HAVE to take chances. Sure, the idea I pitched wasn't really even acknowledged, however, a better opportunity than I currently had was offered to me. And that was critical to furthering myself.

In the first six months, I think I have done a lot of things right, and have done other things that I need to learn from. However, I believe my success has stemmed from three different factors, they are: have faith, be enthusiastic and take chances when they present themselves.

I'm absolutely positive that it any kind of challenge that you may face in your life, be it freelance writing, owning your own business, or entering into a food eating competition, those three components will always lead you to success. They are without a doubt the reasons that have gotten me from having no clue to finding some success in such a short period of time and if I continue to be successful, there is no doubt in my mind that they will be the reason.
