Family physicians refer adults and children to sleep center Ocean County to study their resting disorders. Studies are performed by knowledgeable technicians according to the doctor's orders, and the findings determine the solution to recommend.
Warning signs of these disorders include daytime tiredness, irritability, and morning headaches. Restless legs, difficulty falling or staying in the resting mode, snoring, and sleepwalking may also occur. Depression, moodiness, decreased concentration, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat and other heart disorders, and stroke can result from this issue.
An overnight study or polysomnography gathers data using electrodes attached to certain spots of the head and body. Snoring activity, brain waves, blood oxygen, rapid eye movements, leg and muscle activity, and pulse are watched. Visual and audio monitoring equipment also records the entire study. The patient is given a brief synopsis the next morning by the staff doctor and also sent a complete report in one to two weeks.
Daytime studies called Multiple Sleep Latency Test monitor daytime patterns. Patients are instructed to nap at different times of the day. Knowledgeable technicians observe how quickly they drift off and which stage happens.
Apnea causes the breathing to stop for very short periods while resting. This affects those who are overweight, smoke, older, or diabetic. Men are most commonly affected, and it causes slowed reactions, low motivation, decreased blood oxygen, and problems with vision, memory, and judgment. It is either a result of an uneven respiratory rate which alters the carbon dioxide and oxygen levels in the blood, an airway obstruction, or the collapsing of the airway resulting in loud snoring.
Narcoleptics suffer disturbed nighttime rest which causes them to succumb to naps during daytime hours quickly and unexpectedly. Strong emotions may trigger extreme muscle weakness in the face and legs causing collapse and difficulty speaking and seeing.
REM (rapid eye movement) Behavior Disorder happens during the dreaming stage. Slumberers act out their dreams with kicks, punches, shouts, grabbing for unknown objects, sleepwalking and jumping away from bed. Seizures known as nocturnal epilepsy and frontal lobe epilepsy often occur without the person's knowledge. Warning signs include waking up with a headache or bodily injuries or seeing bedroom items out of place including themselves on the floor. They may also wet the bed during the night.
Sleep center Ocean County diagnoses these disorders using modern technology so family physicians can prescribe the correct treatments. The current health of patients is at risk, and performing these studies decreases the risk of fatal health issues that could occur.
